Lakeside Retreat - An Opportunity to Decompress and Find Inspiration!

The last several months have been a rollercoaster of ups and downs. In June, I celebrated the one year anniversary of my law firm and going out on my own! The first year flew by. I am still proud of myself for making the leap, and having my own firm has been incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. I am proud of the success I have had so far and the fact I am still here to write about it! I wake up excited and grateful each day.

I also had a personal setback which took me by surprise. It forced me to dig deep and find resolve to move forward despite adversity, which is part of life. Challenges test us, but in the end they make us stronger and provide an opportunity to learn more about our strengths and potential. And to learn from our mistakes so as not to repeat them.

Over the past weekend I had the opportunity to take a break from my routine and join a couple of friends for a weekend of relaxation and inspiration at a lakeside "barndominium" (i.e. a repurposed barn). The space was quirky and cozy with lots of nooks and seating areas inside and endless options for sitting around outside...including lounge chairs for catching some rays, a swing and bench facing two sides of the lake, a circular fire pit area, chairs to take to the shoreline, and kayaks for exploring the waters of the calm lake.

My goal for the weekend was to relax and get inspired by the surroundings for a new story/script project. Mission accomplished! I came home rested with lots of notes for a possible new creative project! I'm excited to work on this new project along with the other project in the works. I continue to get more and more inspired and feel creativity expanding inside me as I embrace these projects and opportunities for inspiration.

I also enjoyed time with friends to share stories and laugh and inspire each other. I was not as active as normal, but I enjoyed walking around the trails on the property and taking the kayak onto the water. For the first time ever, I took a kayak out by myself and went to the other side of the lake and back! I also went into the lake for a dip despite generally being afraid of swimming in lakes. It feels good to face a fear and try a new challenge!

I also had fun leading a paint pouring exercise for our group, and each of our paintings came out cool and unique.

And finally, I was inspired by the lakeside beauty, particularly the views of the lake at dusk. It reaffirmed once again my desire to eventually have a home (or vacation home) near water. It brings such peace and calm.
