Creative Retreat III in North Georgia Mountains!

This year marked my third annual creative retreat in the North Georgia Mountains. Once again, I enjoyed a long weekend cabin retreat focused on writing. I had hoped to go around my birthday like in years past, but work and other events pushed the timing back this year. In fact, some unexpected developments in my life made me question whether to go forward with my plans or take a break this year. Ultimately I saw my plans through and decided I would find a way to make it work as it was important for my well-being and goals.

I'm so glad I honored my vision because once again it was a memorable experience and immensely productive in terms of making progress on a new script project. I stayed at a different cabin and absolutely loved its tall windows and placement over a river and numerous nooks for writing. My favorite two spots were on a cushioned chair in the den overlooking the river and a table on the patio overlooking the river.

I also enjoyed walks down to the river's edge where dragonflies and butterflies danced along the shoreline and blooming plants. I was definitely inspired by my surroundings.

One change this year was a last minute decision to bring my beloved cat, Lil Troubs. I had specifically selected a pet friendly cabin but almost decided against bringing him because of the extra hassle and limitations while traveling. In the end, he was a welcome companion who likewise enjoyed the views and made the cabin feel homey.

My goal for the retreat was to get transition from an outline to writing a draft screenplay for a new script project, and specifically to return home with a draft Act I. I found myself writing almost the entire time I was there.  In the end, I returned home with a draft Acts I-III. Because of my writing groove, as well as the situation of the cabin, I had only one limited outing during my retreat and otherwise enjoyed the cabin atmosphere. It wouldn't be a trip to the mountains without a visit to a local winery! I visited Bear Claw Vineyards in Blue Ridge this time around. Until next year! Here's to another creative, productive year.
